Amtico flooring is a unique brand, providing products that combine the beautiful look of natural materials with the performance benefits of synthetics. Amtico developers spend time researching the latest materials and techniques in order to provide a huge collection of wood, stone and abstract effect floorings.

Amtico flooring can be used to create a huge variety of effects, and this article looks at some of the most common ways it is utilised.

Let’s start by looking at one of the most popular areas to use flooring – the hallway. This is what’s known as a ‘high traffic area’, as they get a lot of wear and tear from people coming and going into the house. Halls need flooring that is hard wearing, durable and easy to clean – particularly if there’s an outside doorway involved! Traditionally, people have always been attracted to the beauty of a natural wood floor in the hall, which helps to create a welcoming atmosphere. But natural wood requires a lot of maintenance. This is where Amtico’s wood effect flooring comes into its own, offering a range of over 45 wood styles to chose from. There’s no need for any time consuming waxing or sanding, but the effect is highly convincing, and you’ll be hard pressed to tell that the flooring isn’t real wood. And the wood effect flooring is warm underfoot, so there’s no excuse for people not to leave their shoes by the front door!

If you’re about to welcome a new arrival into the family, you’ll probably be thinking about decorating a nursery, and possibly a children’s playroom. Amtico flooring can offer a practical helping hand to your decorating. A lot of people are tempted to go for carpeting in these areas, but they forget that cleaning them will be a constant problem! Amtico is easy to keep clean – needing only a quick wipe over with a mop, and it’s resistant to the inevitable stains and marks that your little ones will create. Best of all, there’s plenty of soft flooring available, which is kind to hands, knees and feet. Amtico have designed flooring in a wide range of colours, which will fit in with any design scheme. You could also consider incorporating a decorative border. These are designed particularly for small rooms, to add a contemporary or classic feature.

Finally, another joy of Amtico flooring is that it can easily be used to make rooms look lighter and brighter, and to give them an illusion of space. The secret, of course, is using pale colours on the floor and walls. Whilst most people don’t flinch at using soft wall colours, they do worry about keeping pale floors clean. But, as Amtico floors can just be wiped clean, this isn’t a problem. Amtico offer a huge range of pale flooring options, which help to reflect light around the room, thus creating a feeling of space. Used in combination with pale walls, and flexible lighting, any room can be made to look spacious and airy.

Why choose Brabantia bin liners over other brands?

When it comes to bin liners, if you want a brand which is sold, reliable and trustworthy, then Brabantia is a name you can trust. There are all kinds of reasons why you might be looking for a sturdy bin liner which is reliable and secure enough to hold all rubbish in the waste bin too.

In some instances, a simple black bin bag will not suffice as many ordinary household bin liners are made from LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) or LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) and are therefore not sturdy enough to carry excessive amounts of waste. However if you feel uncomfortable with transporting and disposing of waste using these type of conventional bin liners perhaps due to fear of breakage, then Brabantia bin liners are what’s required.

The difference with Brabantia bin liners is that the density of the material is a lot thicker. Made of HDPE, these Brabantia bin liners use extra strong quality plastic. So if you’re a home or business owner who regularly disposes of a lot of waste, this is ideal as it means you can remove a lot of waste items knowing they will remain intact once they leave the pedal bin.

Brabantia have made it easy to use, by creating tailored-to-fit waste bin liners which can be dispensed at random from their large dispenser pack should you require a new bin liner. Simply remove one from the large opening on the front of the packet – a bit like a tissue box, you just grab a new bin liner and it will easily come away from the packet and is available to use on pedal bins or waste bins.

For ease of use, Brabantia bin liners also come with special ventilation holes in them which make them easier into the waste big, another great feature for those looking for free standing bin liners and not those which are attached to one another, as in the case of most waste bags which come rolled up together.

For the style conscious, a Brabantia bin liner is a good choice because it can fit your waste bin perfectly, without any ugly overwrap around the edges which you often see on some pedal or waste bins with conventional bin liners. Easy to transport and with an easy to seal band, these kind of bin liners are ideal for any number of pedal bins or waste bins and are ideal to have close to hand either in your office or around the home.

Their range of bin liners are also environmentally friendly. Their compostable bin liner range is fully biodegradable and designed to hold and remove organic kitchen compost waste, whilst keeping the inner bucket both dry and clean. In some cases, the bin liner can also be put onto the compost heap, making these both reliable and incredibly kind to the environment.

There are various flat roofing materials, and the choice of which to use will boil down to two main factors:

Cost

Durability

Flat roofing has one main drawback, and that is the drainage of water. Being flat, the water does not have the means to run off as it does in the case of pitched roofing. Therefore, whatever material and flat roofing system is deployed it is vital that it be as water tight and water proof as possible.

Roofer Leeds – Roofing Leeds – Roofer Sheffield – Roofer in Leicester

The different materials for flat roofing include the following:

Asphalt Roll Roofing

Probably the oldest method, dating back to the 1890’s, usually comprises one layer of asphalt or fibreglass base felts. This is applied over roof felt, secured with nails and asphalt cement and topped with a granular, or gravel, top surface. This type of flat roof last typically 10 years. Read more on asphalt roll roofing.

Built-up Roofs (BUR)

Construction of a membrane comprising layers of felts and bitumens. The bitumens provide the waterproofing and adhesion, and the felts provide the strength. Protection of the membrane from the elements is provided by a surface layer often of gravel embedded in bitumen.

BUR’s can last up to 30 years whereupon they must be totally removed and replaced. A new top layer is often required after 10 years.

Single-ply Membranes

Less expensive, lighter in weight and more energy efficient than most built-up roofs (BUR). The choice of what single-ply material to use includes the following:

PVC – A synthetic thermoplastic polymer. Expensive, but capable of excellent performance and longevity.

TPO – A blend of polymers that might contain flame-retardants and UV absorbers. Mostly maintenance free, it should last a good 30 years.

EPDM – A flexible single-ply roofing material.

Rubber Membrane

Rubber roofing Sheffield – Roofer in Leeds

Durable and resistant to general wear and tear, and leaks are easy to locate and repair. Rubber roofs are also easy and quick to fit. It is an expensive option and buildings may be hot as rubber tends to absorb rather than reflect the heat.

Fibreglass

Highly durable, low maintenance and weather resistant, fibreglass is a type of plastic. Used for its light weight allied to high strength in applications such as racing car parts and boat hulls, it is a sound roofing choice.

Metal Roofing

A key benefit of metal as a roofing material is light weight. This places lower demands on a building’s structure making metal a good choice for roofing replacement (where, say, a previous type of roof had been used before).

Another great benefit of metal for roofs is its longevity – some manufacturers will offer warranties lasting up to 50 years. Even when a metal roof has been in place for several years, it can often be refurbished thus increasing its life-cycle further. Metal roofs are also highly energy efficient and low maintenance, so ‘whole of life’ costs are very attractive.

Summary

The choice of flat roofing materials is clearly varied, and the decision will rest on (a) budget and (b) longevity.

Most types of roofing are pretty maintenance free, but in certain parts of the UK and depending on which way your property is facing, your roof may be prone to getting a lot of moss or lichen on it, which could lead to costly roof repairs over time. In this article we look at how lichen or moss can affect your roof and how to maintain it to prevent a build up from occurring.

Roofer Nottingham – Roofing Nottingham – Roofer Bristol

If a part or all of your roof is in the shade from trees, then the roof may stay damp more often than a roof that gets a lot of sunlight. Moss and lichen can build up on the roof tiles and this may lead to your roof not lasting quite so long. The roots of moss and lichen can damage the surface of roof tiles and this can mean that roof repairs are needed more often. One way that you can prevent this from occurring is to jet wash the roof, although it is probably best to get the advice of experienced roofers before you do anything as some roofs may end up with more damage from jet washing. It may be worth considering employing the servicing of experts in roof cleaning to do any such work.

Roofing Bristol – Roof repairs Bristol – Roofers in Liverpool – Roofer Liverpool

Something else that you could consider is contacting roofers to install a new roof using a material that is less likely to get moss and lichen growing on it. Certain types of roofing can reduce the chances of growth resulting a roof that requires less maintenance and that is easier to care for. You should also keep an eye on the chimney. If moss or lichen grows on the chimney stack then you may need to get this removed and consider contacting roofers to do chimney re-pointing on your home.

It would be wise to ensure that you contact roofers every so often for roofing maintenance checks. Their expert eyes may spot a potential disaster that you would not have noticed because they have more knowledge of roofs and roof repairs. You could d simple checks by using a pair of binoculars to have a look at the roof to spot anything obvious, but it may pay to get expert roofers to have a look up close every five years or so just to be sure.

One of the most important things to remember is that if you notice any damp or leaking in your home that you contact a roofing company immediately to prevent further damage from occurring. Roof repairs need to be dealt with quickly so that the rest of your home doesn’t get damp as this can end up costing a lot of money to fix. Roof repairs when required are all part of the roofing maintenance regime that you should adopt.

Finally, if there are any loose, missing or cracked tiles or slates on your roof, you need to get the roof repairs done immediately even if it is not causing any issues at that time. Leaving it could lead to expensive repairs as a tile could fall and damage several others on its way down leading to leaks in the roof – and you don’t want that!

British homes are not just home to families. They are also home to a whole host of creepy crawlies that hide in different parts of the house and feed on what they find. But did you know that you can get rid of most of them simply by cleaning? Think about it – the bugs in your home are living by feeding on the bits of food left on the floors and surfaces, and the thousands of dead skin cells that all of us shed every day. It can be hard to find the time in your busy day to do the cleaning, but knowing the kind of bugs that are lurking in your home could change your mind and make you at least consider the option of getting domestic cleaners in to do it for you if you don’t have time.

Cleaners Nottingham, Cleaning company Bristol, Domestic Cleaners Glasgow, Domestic cleaners Leicester

The kitchen is one of the worst places for finding bugs because obviously this is where most of your food is prepared and so it cannot be helped that crumbs and little pieces of food can be found on the floor and the surfaces, but regular domestic cleaning can get rid of the debris and using anti-bacterial sprays can get rid of any harmful bacteria that may be lurking. This can also avoid illnesses caused by the contamination of raw and cooked meats. Bugs that you may find in food preparation areas are cockroaches (yes, even in England!), silverfish, ants and the firebat. By keeping your home in tip top condition many of these will move on as they won’t be able to live without the food.

Cleaners in Sheffield, Cleaning companies Bristol, Domestic cleaner huddersfield, Cleaners Nottingham

The bedroom is also a popular place for bugs as they feed on the skin cells that are left in the carpet and bedding. Bed bugs are the most common bedroom creepy crawly and these are certainly something that you want to try and avoid by ensuring that the cleaning is taken care of. Why I hear you ask? Because they survive by sucking human blood! They are miniscule so you won’t ever see them, but I’m sure you would rather get the cleaners in to reduce the amount of them sharing your bed with you! By paying cleaners to do it for you, you can get your mattress and carpets vacuumed and disinfected without having to lift a finger. Now that’s more like it!

Now we move onto the front room. Most people have carpeted living rooms, and carpets are like bug city if they are not kept vacuumed and washed. Here we will see flies, cockroaches, spiders and carpet beetles. If you have natural wood furniture you may also get woodworm. Other upholstery such as the sofa can also contain bugs and bacteria and so you should vacuum these too – or get the domestic cleaners to do it for you if you don’t have the time.

If you have pets, you may also find ticks and fleas as these feed on the dead skin and blood or animals. Ticks and fleas can also wonder around in the carpets so you really do need to keep the hoover at hand when you have pets at home. Pets also shed a lot of hair and this can make your home look scruffy and attract all kinds of nasty bugs so it’s best to ensure that the cleaning is done regularly to avoid all of these critters from making your house their home!

During the colder months of the year, many people have to call emergency plumbers because the pipes in their homes freeze causing severe problems with the plumbing. But did you know that there are steps that you can take to prevent such emergencies from occurring? This article will share some tips with you on how you can prevent frozen pipes even if temperatures drop below freezing in winter time. Hopefully you can then save hundreds of pounds on paying to have your pipes repaired.

Plumbers Leicester – Plumbing Leicester – Boiler Repair Liverpool – Plumber Liverpool – Plumber Edinburgh

Winter time is a popular time for trips away to get to warmer climates and we all know that feeling! In the UK, we see temperatures fall to well below zero during our winter and so a holiday to the sun can be very appealing indeed. But when you go away there are things that you need to do to stop the pipes from freezing and bursting. You should switch off the main water supply to your home and if you’re intending to be away for a week or more it could also be wise to drain the system. If this is not possible for whatever reason, it would be wise to leave the central heating system running on a timer to keep the place warm. If you don’t do these things then water will be sat in the pipes as you won’t be using it and so you could end up with costly plumbing repairs when you get back.

Plumber Nottingham – Plumber Bristol – Boiler repair Glasgow – Plumbers Liverpool

Something else that can help to stop the pipes from freezing at home in cold weather is to ensure that any pipes in the home are kept warm. Many pipes are hidden away behind cupboard doors and so simply by opening them up the central heating in your home can get into the cupboards and keep the pipes a little warmer. Many plumbers give advice such as to keep the heating on at all times in order to keep the property warm and prevent frozen pipe work. It is often argued that it uses more energy to turn the heating on and off than just to leave it on low at all times. Even if you don’t want the heating on all day due to the cost, you can set the timer so that it comes on at least once in the middle of the day while you’re out at work. This is better than leaving it off all day.

Another option, which may be more costly, is to use heating cables on your pipes that are on exterior walls or that are outside the property. This is by far one of the most effective ways as the pipes are heated directly by the cables so temperatures have to get extremely low in order for the pipes to freeze. Although this is a more expensive way, it will be cheaper than having to pay for plumbing repairs if your pipes end up splitting or bursting and your home gets flooded.

No matter what you do, sometimes frozen pipes just can’t be helped if temperatures fall to a low enough level. If you find that this does happen, it is vital that you get a reliable plumbing firm to come and fix the problem right away because if freezing temperatures last for long periods, the problem may not sort itself out. This problem should be treated as a plumbing emergency so you should call out an emergency plumbing team as soon as you notice the problem starting.

In an ideal world, our roofs would remain secure and without a need for roofing repairs. But life isn’t like that and from time to time we need roof repairs to be done on our homes. There are many reasons for roof repairs to be done, from simply ensuring that your home maintains a stylish look to keeping damp from spoiling the walls inside your home in the cold and wet weather. But choosing the right time to have your roof repairs done is vital and could save you a lot of stress and hassle. In this article we look at when is best to have your roofing work completed.

Roofers Glasgow – Roofers Manchester – Roofer Glasgow – Roof repairs Derby – Roofing contractors Nottingham

It will be pretty obvious to most that opting to have roof work done during the cold or icy months of year is not the best idea. Of course, this isn’t always an option as if high winds damage your roof in winter you will have no choice but to get the roofers in to fix it when it happens. However, there may be roof repairs that are more minor that could wait until the weather is dry so that your roofing work is done without fuss and without delays due to rain and ice. A good roofing company will give you advice based on the weather conditions. They may be able to use different materials and coatings in wet weather that will ensure that the roofing work can be done immediately, and even though this may cost more it would be well worth it.

Roof repair Leicester – Roofing Leicester – Roofer in Bristol

Chimney repairs are also important as a chimney that is not working correctly could result in fumes staying inside the home which could lead to you or your family becoming unwell. Of course, again this kind of work may need doing straight away regardless of the weather but you should talk through this with your roofers to ensure that the work carried out will last even if it is completed in wet conditions. Chimney re-pointing should be carried out in warmer weather, and generally re-pointing of chimneys is not urgent so it could wait a few months until the weather is better.

It is very important that you do your homework about the different types of coatings that can be applied to your roof during wet conditions to avoid the need for more roof repairs later on. You should also consider that having roofing work done during the winter months could run the risk of your roofers slipping on icy tiles and this could delay the project meaning that your home may be unprotected for a longer period.

If a roof is left damaged, it could end up in costly repairs to the interior of your home. Your roof is an integral part of your home because it keeps the weather out and prevents damp from ruining the walls and the interiors of your property. Not only that, the roof stops heat escaping from your home and so a damaged roof can actually increase your utility bills, which as we all know are already high in today’s world. So it’s not worth cutting corners and you should get quotes from different roofers in your area. The more advice your roofers give before they start work, the more reputable they are likely to be as they clearly know what they are doing and want to keep your fully involved with the entire process.
